CNA License

CNA License: An Overview

If you have ever thought about being a nurse, then you have probably thought about becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant by getting a CNA License.

Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant by getting a CNA License will bring you one step closer to an engaging career in the health industry. The duties which a Certified Nursing Assistant performs are not really difficult, but they are nonetheless important in the grand scheme of things.

Admittedly, there are many people doing the exact same job as a Certified Nurses Assistant, and don't have any credentials whatsoever. These workers are known as orderlies, and will probably be in the same job for the rest of their lives.

A CNA license gives you an edge when it comes to job opportunities, and can also net you a higher salary than if you apply for jobs in hospitals and nursing homes.

Getting a CNA license is relatively easy. Almost every nursing school or community college has a Certified Nursing Assistant Program or course. The course itself will last anywhere from one month to three months, and includes both theoretical and practical aspects. To get to your CNA License you will probably be looking at an overall cost of between $800 to $2000 to enter into a program, however if you can not afford that there are free programs available as well. After that, you will only be required to pay between $300 and $600 for the actual CNA License itself.

Once you have successfully completed the course you will be required to complete 2 exams: The Clinical Exam and the Theoretical Exam:

Clinical Exam:

For the clinical exam, you may be required to tow along a volunteer, so that you can properly show the techniques, bedside manner, and medical testing practices you have learned in the course of the program.

During the exam, you will be asked to demonstrate between 2 to 5 practical training skills you picked up during the course and that you need to know to get your CNA License.

Before you begin your exam, be sure to wash your hands in front of the examiner, dry them off with a paper towel, and use the same paper towel to turn off the tap. This may seem a little extreme, but when it comes to these examiners, they are very strict, and like to see that sort of thing.

By washing your hands in front of the examiner, you will be showing a conscientious attitude, in not wanting to transfer germs to your patients, and will likely gain you much needed points toward your CNA License.

Theoretical Exam:

There is nothing mysterious, or new about the theoretical exam you will need to take to get your CNA License. It is the same process as for any other course or program you would find in any educational institution. You can hop online and visit the exam center which corresponds to your area, in order to see sample questions and past exams, to help you properly prepare for the big day.

Always remember, that the nursing school, or college, you went to for the course should also help you in preparation for these exams, and should even be able to set up and schedule the exams for you, and let you know what you need to know, so that you won't be left in the dark as to what's expected of you.

Once you have successfully passed these exams you will be issued a CNA license which will need to be renewed yearly.

As an added benefit those of you who wish to move on to become Registered Nurses (RNs) or a BSN will find it much easier to do if you have a valid can license under your belt.
