CNA License Renewal
Getting a Certified Nursing Assistant license is one of the best things you can do to enhance your chances in the health industry.
Once you have finished the course, and successfully completed the two separate exams (theoretical and clinical), you will have your CNA License which will be good for one year.
That being said you will need to renew your CNA license on a yearly basis. You will not be required to go through the entire course again, however you will still be required to go through the two different exams again: Theoretical and Clinical:
Let's do a quick recap of what each exam entails:
Clinical Exam:
The clinical exam, also known as the practical exam, is rather straightforward especially if this is your second or third time renewing your CNA license. You will be expected to find a volunteer to help you in the course of this examination, to help show that you can still walk the walk and have not forgotten any essential skills or techniques you were taught during the course of your program.
You should expect to need to demonstrate between two to five practical training skills in order for the examiner to be satisfied.
Always remember to wash your hands properly before the exam, in front of the examiner. This may seem like a silly bit of advice, however they won't be as lenient on you as they would someone who does not have their CNA license yet.
Remember to wash your hands, dry them with a paper towel, and use that same paper towel to turn off the tap before disposing of it in a waste-basket.
This will give you some much needed points with the examiner, as many people who are renewing often don't take the time for that one tiny detail.
Theoretical Exam:
Hopefully you haven't forgotten anything in the course of your work, however it is always a good idea to prepare properly for the theoretical portion of the exam. This exam can be taken online, and at a time convenient for yourself.
Before taking the exam online, you will want to hop around the net and look for some sample questions and past exams before you take the plunge into the seat. The exams are constantly changing, and there might just be some questions on there that will take you by surprise if you skip this critical step when preparing for it.
If you need help in setting up these exams, you can always go back to the nursing school or college where you took the course in the first place, and they should be able to help you set something up. Sometimes this service will be free, but be prepared to pay a small charge just in case.
Once you have passed the above two exams, you will be issued your brand new CNA license, and won't need to worry again for one whole year.
It seems like a lot of trouble to go through, renewing your CNA license year after year, but remember that it offers the distinct advantage that it proves you know what you are doing, provides job security and can even net you a higher salary than your coworkers who do not have one. |
